Highbury Vaults

164 St Michaels Hill, Cotham, BRISTOL, BS2 8DE

Once a turnpike station, this 1840s pub has retained much of its Victorian atmosphere. In days when hangings took place on nearby St Michael's Hill, many victims partook of their last meal in the vaults. Today, it's a business crowd by day and students at night, feasting on chilli (veggie and meat), burgers, nachos, and jacket potatoes. No fussy foods, no music or fruit machines here, but a popular heated garden terrace. Look carefully and you'll spot a little train running the length of the pub.
