BOURTON-ON-THE-HILL, Moreton-in-Marsh, GL56 9AQ
The Greenstock brothers run this handsome Grade II listed Cotswold stone pub and it is both a serious dining destination and a friendly place for a drink. The building combines a contemporary feel with plenty of original period features and the mature garden is a must-visit in summer with its panoramic hilltop views. The beer selection mixes local brews such as Goffs Jouster and over 20 carefully selected wines are served by the glass. The blackboard menu changes daily, providing plenty of appeal for even the most ardent regulars. With committed local suppliers backed up by the pub's own abundant vegetable patch, the kitchen has plenty of good produce to work with. A typical menu might feature deep-fried salt and pepper squid with Vietnamese salad; griddled Dexter sirloin steak, garlic, parsley and shallot butter; or pan-fried John Dory fillet, sautéed spinach, brown shrimps and café de Paris butter; followed by vanilla gingernut cheesecake with spiced clemantines.
