The Willow Tree

29 High Street, BOURN, CB23 2SQ

Just off Ermine Street, the old Roman road from London to York, is Craig and Shaina Galvin-Scott's mansard-roofed village pub. A white picket fence surrounds the street frontage, while in the rear garden are the majestic eponymous willow tree, a heated terrace, a children's play area and, when warm, striking purple deck-chairs. The shabby-chic interior incorporates an open fireplace and a medley of non-matching dining chairs. From a winter menu come blow-torched scallop with peas and pancetta; roasted venison haunch rolled in chervil and walnut crush; Mediterranean sea bass and squid stew; and aubergine, red pepper and lentil moussaka.
