The Willow Tree

29 High Street, BOURN, CB23 2SQ

Just off Ermine Street, the old Roman road from London to York, is Craig and Shaina Galvin-Scott's mansard-roofed village pub. A white picket fence surrounds the street frontage, while in the large rear garden are the majestic eponymous willow tree, a heated terrace, a swing and, when warm, deckchairs. The shabby-chic interior incorporates an open fireplace and a medley of non-matching dining chairs. The menu changes with the seasons and on one spring menu dishes such as grilled sardine on toast; and rabbit escabeche appeared as starters, followed by hake fillet, chorizo, white bean and parsley cassoulet; or Tilbury Meadows rib-eye or fillet steak, hand-cut chips and wild mushroom sauce. A two day music and drink festival is held in June.
