The Old Ferry Inn

Daphne du Maurier wrote many of her novels at 'Ferryside', the house next door to this 400-year-old inn by the River Fowey. You can watch people messing about in boats from one of the sun terraces, stay in the bar among the nautical memorabilia, or cosy up in the stone-walled snug. A long list of snacks includes Cornish Pasties, while among the mains are cod in Sharp's ale batter; wholetail scampi and chips; roast chicken breast with local cider, cream and apple sauce; and wild mushroom and thyme penne pasta. The adjacent ferry carries cars over to Fowey town.
