Market Square, BISHOP'S CASTLE, SY9 5BN
In an elevated position off a quiet square, The Castle's beer garden offers panoramic views over Shropshire countryside. This is one option for customers at this imposing stone-built inn dating from 1719. The Castle is a veritable haven of hospitality, warmed by three log fires in the cooler months. Three bars serve an excellent choice of real ales such as Clun Pale, and a dozen wines by the glass. The oak-panelled restaurant serves plates of sustainably produced south Shropshire food. Choose from the likes of Jacob's Ladder (short rib) of beef with horseradish gnocchi, or slow-roasted pork belly. A beer and cider festival is hosted in early July.
