Dovecote Lane, BEESTON, Nottingham, NG9 1JG
This free house combines a welcoming atmosphere with great food and a wide choice of traditional ales and ciders, continental beers and lagers, many wines by the glass and single malt whiskies. The Victoria dates from 1899 when it was built next to Beeston Railway Station, and the large, heated patio garden is still handy for a touch of train-spotting. Main courses could include steak bordelaise; sauté of fresh monkfish and king prawns with mild Thai sauce; or smoked haddock with spinach and prawn lasagne. There are just as many options for vegetarians. Check out the dates of the annual beer festivals - Easter, last two weeks in July, and again in October.
