Beaulieu Road, BEAULIEU, SO42 7YQ
This inn is surrounded by the glorious New Forest National Park. The word 'drift' refers to the centuries-old, twice a year, round-up of the 3,000-plus free-wandering ponies. Beers from Ringwood on the western side of the forest and a guest ale are served in the bar, while in the restaurant the menu lists tandoori rubbed salmon with Bombay-style potatoes; seasonable vegetable Wellington with creamed garlic and parmesan mash; shepherd's pie; and a selection of sandwiches, baguettes and jacket potatoes. Outside are two children's play areas and large gardens, although no one minds if you come inside wearing walking boots or wellies and with your dog in tow.
