The Turtley Corn Mill

Set among six acres of gardens and fields on the edge of Dartmoor, including a lake complete with ducks and its own small island, this sprawling old free house was originally a corn mill and spent many years as a chicken hatchery before being converted to a pub. The interior is light and fresh with old furniture and oak and slate floors. You'll find plenty of newspapers and books to browse through while enjoying a whisky or supping a pint of Doom Bar. The daily-changing modern British menus for breakfast/brunch, lunch and dinner are extensively based on local produce from around the pub's idyllic location. Choices from a sample menu start with terrine of pork, apple and black pudding; or salad of heritage beetroot and goats' curd; continue with smoked haddock and chive fishcakes; or red wine braised oxtail with mustard, mash and vegetables; and wind up with poached apricot open tart, or cappuccino pannacotta.
