Hit or Miss Inn

Penn Street Village, AMERSHAM, HP7 0PX

Overlooking the cricket ground from which its name is taken, this is an 18th-century cottage-style dining pub. It has a beautiful country garden with lawn, patio and picnic tables for warmer days, while inside you'll find fires, old-world beams, Badger ales and a warm welcome from landlords Michael and Mary Macken, who have been running the pub for over 13 years. Options on the menu range from tempting sandwiches and baked potatoes to dishes like calves' liver with mash, sweet and sour onions and Madeira sauce; or slow-cooked lamb shank with crispy pancetta, broad beans and new potatoes. There are daily specials, Sunday roasts and a children's menu, too. There is a village beer and cider festival in mid July.
