The Walton Arms

Burnley Road, ALTHAM, Accrington, BB5 5UL

A long-established way-station on an ancient highway linking Yorkshire and Lancashire, this sturdy, stone-built dining pub oozes history. Pilgrims to Whalley Abbey called at an inn here when Henry VII was king. Beams and brasses, rustic furniture and slabbed stone floors welcome today's pilgrims intent on sampling the comprehensive menu, either as a bar meal or in the atmospheric dining room. Typical choices include sea bass fillets, crayfish, chorizo and lemon risotto; spinach, cherry tomato and mozzarella suet pudding; or the inn's signature dish - shoulder of local lamb with roasted vegetables.
