Beckford Road, ALDERTON, Tewkesbury, GL20 8NL
Operating as a pub since the 16th century, this pretty, family-run, thatched free house is popular with walkers, cyclists and car clubs. You can play boules in the large beer garden, and traditional games in the stone-walled bar, where Cotswold Way numbers among the real ales. Menus change with the seasons, as you might expect from a pub with the word 'gardener' in its name. The Gardeners Arms offers a fixed menu that changes fortnightly - the food is hearty and traditional, including the likes of pork belly, lamb chump and bacon, fish and chips, and beef topside with roasted turnips. There's a beer and cider festival in August.
