From the Cairngorms to the Cornish Coast Christopher draws the reader into the story of each route with his uniquely engaging personal narrative.
Each journey is a blend of landscape, geology, wildlife, music, literature, history and social history. Christopher's personal observations and anecdotes are accompanied by stunning photography and specially drawn maps to help the reader follow each of the routes.
Christopher Somerville said, "After thirty years of travelling these islands on foot and writing about their hidden corners and unregarded delights, I wanted to make a mosaic of some of Britain's most iconic landscapes, along with some overlooked but fascinating nooks and crannies. Somerville's Travels is all about journeys by slow bus, canal boat and branch line train, by island ferry and rickety old bicycle, and above all on my own two feet – trying to pull together a great diversity of places, people, weathers and landscapes, and to get somewhere near the heart and soul of this wonderfully varied country of ours."
Somerville's Travels also offer's readers practical walking advice including tips on which maps to take with you and the best websites to consult when journey planning.
Somerville's Travels RRP £20.00 is published by AA Publishing on 31 October and is available from The AA Shop.
