The AA was voted the Breakdown/Recovery Company of the Year at the GreenFleet Awards last night for activities including their re-introduction of both motor and pushbike patrols in city centres and the launch of Fuel Assist .

Events such as the MPG Marathon, along with the use of zero emissions Vectrix electric scooters and bicycles enhance the message from the UK's leading breakdown company.

As an employer the AA has reduced staff commuting as around 300 call centre staff now work from home.

The judges of the GreenFleet Awards said of the AA "Champions of eco-driving via a web and media awareness campaign and MPG Marathon, the AA have also set new standards for the processing of salvaged adulterated fuel. Commendable deployment of electric scooters and pedal cycles in place of the more traditional breakdown vehicle, assisted traffic congestion, as did the intelligent application of home working."

Steve Dewey, Director of Road Operations for the AA said "It is always good to get recognition for any project but on winning this award we can be proud that we are also doing great work in reducing CO2 emissions as well as helping our members to be more aware of eco-driving. We are looking forward to continuing to enhance our work in this area."
