Caravan insurance for family owners thinking of touring to the Cotswolds rather than Carcassonne

AA Insurance has launched a new 'value' caravan insurance policy, aimed at those who own a caravan worth up to £10,000.

Christened AA Caravan Essentials it is aimed at the average family owning a lower value caravan, used mainly for UK touring.

Karen Jakes, head of AA Caravan Insurance, says: "With the poor exchange rate, high price of fuel and the generally higher cost of living we believe many families are considering caravan destinations such as the Cotswolds or the Cairngorms this year, rather than say Carcassonne.

"The AA's Economy and Select policies include benefits such as legal expenses and year-round European cover but many owners won't be interested in those – however it does include up to 30 days cover outside the UK just in case the family do decide to hop over the channel for a weeks or so."

AA Caravan Essentials still includes up to £2 million public liability cover, accidental damage and theft cover. Standard minimum excess is £150 (instead of £100 on Standard cover); while extras such as legal expenses or family cover can be added for an additional premium.

Customers who do upgrade their caravan to one with a higher value than £10,000 or decide to take an extended European tour, can easily upgrade their policy at any time to Standard or Select. "The AA's range of caravan cover enables owners to adapt the cover they need to suit their own caravanning ambitions," Karan Jakes adds.
