This delightful castle idyllically set in the Sussex countryside boasts 900 years of history. The battlements, complete with a mighty portcullis (one of the few in Europe that still works) enclose the hotel. Beyond these walls are acres of stunning parkland that feature formal gardens, Koi ponds and Mistletoe Lodge, a thatched tree house accessed by a rope bridge. Here, from May to September, it is possible to dine on a special seasonal menu for two. In a more formal setting guests can enjoy award-winning cuisine in the magnificent Queen's Room - pre-booking is essential. Named after Sussex castles each of the sumptuously furnished bedrooms and suites is unique in design; some have four-poster beds. All have whirlpool baths and have lots of little luxuries such as fruit, biscuits and chocolates.
