Description

Widely considered the world's greatest tennis tournament, top-seed players, traditional strawberries and cream and the infamous rain delays set Wimbledon apart from other Grand Slams. Some of the greatest matches of all time have been fought out here on Centre Court. The tournament was first staged in 1877, and in 1922 the All England Club moved to its present site. The opportunity to spend a day watching tennis at Wimbledon is regarded as an experience of a lifetime for many. Thousands queue overnight during the tournament for the chance to purchase one of the limited match-day tickets available.

It is not just the fans who are intoxicated by the romance of Wimbledon. Many of the greatest tennis players of all time have fallen in love with the Centre Court, where the close proximity of the fans to the playing area enables them to develop a special relationship with their audience. Pete Sampras, Bjorn Borg, Boris Becker, John McEnroe, Martina Navratilova and Chris Evert all regarded the court as their spiritual home.

With the arena bringing out the best in their personalities and the fast grass courts bringing out the best in their talents, Wimbledon provides a stage where the players shine at their brightest.

Even when rain stops play, somehow it all adds to the spirit of the tournament, and the Centre Court's transparent retractable roof means the most high-profile games can play on through the drizzle.
