Lavenham The Guildhall of Corpus Christi

Market Place, LAVENHAM, CO10 9QZ

The Guildhall of Corpus Christi is one of the finest timber-framed buildings in Britain. It was built around 1530 by the prosperous Corpus Christi Guild, for religious rather than commercial reasons. The hall now houses a local history museum telling the story of Lavenham's cloth trade riches in the 15th and 16th centuries. You can also see the walled garden with its 19th-century lock-up and mortuary.
