The early part of the palace, the bishop's chapel and the ruins of the banqueting hall date from the 13th century, and the undercroft remains virtually unchanged from this time. There are several state rooms and a long gallery which houses portraits of former Bishops. 14 acres of spectacular gardens contain the wells which give the city its name.
