Exbury Gardens & Railway

Exbury Estate Office, EXBURY, Southampton, SO45 1AZ

Exbury Gardens are a spectacular 200 acre site, world-famous for the Rothschild Collection of rhododendrons, azaleas, camellias and rare trees and shrubs. There is a riot of colour in spring, an oasis of tranquillity in summer, followed by a splendid show as the leaves change in the autumn. The railway offers a 20-minute journey, or you can ride a chauffeur-driven buggy to tour the Gardens. Exbury's outdoor Adventure Play Area is ideal for younger visitors, with a basket swing, climbing apparatus and a slide, easy access to the toilet facilities, and only a stone's throw away from the Tea Rooms. Summer is a favourite time for families. Mr Eddy's Tearooms, Art Gallery and Gift Shop share the same visiting hours as the Gardens. The Steam Railway runs every day the Gardens are open, with trains departing Exbury Central Station throughout the day. See website for timetable. (Photos: Colin Roberts & Nigel Philpott)
