The Priory of Our Lady of Thetford belonged to the Order of Cluny, and was founded in 1103 by Roger Bigod, an old soldier and friend of William the Conqueror. Here the dukes and earls of Norfolk would have been buried. The remains are dramatic. You can see the walls of the church and cloister, and an almost complete gatehouse. This site gives you a glimpse of medieval religious life before the Dissolution of the Monasteries.
