Dimbola Museum & Galleries

Terrace Lane, Freshwater Bay, FRESHWATER, PO40 9QE

Home of Julia Margaret Cameron (1815-1879), the pioneer Victorian portrait photographer. The house has the largest collection of Cameron prints on permanent display in the UK, as well as a lively programme of photography exhibitions and special events. Cameron is best known for her portraits, which were ground-breaking in their natural, candid approach; many were of friends and acquaintances who were also celebrities of the time; people like Charles Darwin, Alfred Lord Tennyson, Ellen Terry and many of the Pre-Raphaelites. Some of her photographs were also based around myths or literary figures.
