During November 2003 the Touran was fitted with an intelligent device to remind the driver and front seat passenger to to buckle their seatbelts. The car gained extra points which now gives the car a five star rating. Its body suffered only modest intrusion and deformation during the frontal impact. The protection the child restraints gave in the frontal impact was poor. The Touran gave good protection to pedestrians and remains one of few European designs to achieve a three star result.
