VW were allowed a frontal retest after improving the protection to the lower legs. The structure performed well with only relatively modest deformation of the passenger cell after the frontal impact. The side impact protection was good. The manufacturer also decided to update these results by showing the benefit of the optional head impact curtain airbag. The protection from the child restraints was not uniformly good and the pedestrian protection was poor.
