Compare with other cars in the Large Family Car category
The Passat achieved its five star adult occupant protection rating prior to running the pole retest and not as a consequence of the retest. EuroNCAP allowed a rerun of the pole test following changes to the car's curtain airbag and rooflining to optimize the curtain's functionality. The body shell proved to be extremely strong suffering minimal deformation in the frontal impact and providing good levels of protection for the adults. The restraint systems include dual-stage frontal airbags, driver and passenger knee airbags, front safety belts with pre-tensioners and load limiters. An intelligent seat belt reminder system is fitted for the driver and front passenger. The child protection offered by the car was good. The level of protection offered to pedestrians and other vulnerable road users was judged to be fair overall.
