In the frontal impact the driver's knees and femurs were protected by an airbag mounted beneath the steering column. Toyota demonstrated to Euro NCAP that the airbag would also provide adequate protection to taller and shorter drivers in different seating positions. The car scored maximum points in the side impact test though in the pole test the rear door moved from the primary to the secondary latch position and the car lost one of the two points available for that test. In the pedestrian tests the protection offered by the bonnet to an adult pedestrian's head was rated as predominantly fair.
