In the frontal impact structures in the dashboard presented a potential hazard to the driver's knees and femurs. The B-Class scored maximum points in the side impact and pole tests. A child-seat recognition system is available as an option from Mercedes which automatically disables the airbag for the front passenger's seating position. The cars tested did not have this system fitted as it is not standard equipment. Without it the airbag cannot be disabled and a rear-facing child restraint must not be used in the front passenger seats.
