The car performed badly only just achieving the three star Euro NCAP rating; this is an extremely disappointing result for a new car model in a market segment where other manufactures have made major improvements in recent years. The child protection was good but the pedestrian protection was not very inspiring. KIA decided to fund the testing of a car with side impact airbags, which are an option in some European markets, the results were better but a door opened in the test. KIA advised that they have introduced a counter measure but this has not been assessed by Euro NCAP; it is not able to confirm whether or not this has overcome the problem.
