Compare with other cars in the Large SUV category

From August 2003, the Cherokee is fitted with an intelligent device to remind the driver to buckle his seatbelt. The vehicle therefore gains an extra point which now gives it a four star rating. In general the Cherokee performed well and deserved its four stars. But the driver experienced fairly high loads on his body from the restraint system and these could have harmed him. The child restraints were effective, especially in cushioning head during side impact. Protection given to pedestrians proved to be poor however.
