The C5 is a strong performing car and is awarded the five star rating for occupant protection. The stable passenger cell provides good protection for all of the occupants; the car achieved almost a maximum in the frontal impact and maximum points in the side and pole tests, but this score was reduced because a rear door opened in the side impact. The restraint systems include dual stage airbags, belt pre-tensioners and load limiters (for all belts), driver's knee airbag, seat mounted side airbags anda head protecting curtain airbag. An intelligent seat belt reminder system is fitted and caters for all seating positions. The child protection offered was fair overall but pedestrian protection was disappointing.
