The passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal test. Structures in the dashboard presented a risk of injury to the knees and femurs of the driver and passenger. In both the side impact and the pole test, the rear door became unlatched on the impacted side. The car was penalised as door opening presents a risk of occupant ejection. Based on the dummy readings alone, the car would have scored maximum points. The X3 scored no points for the protection offered to pedestrians' legs by the bumper or the front edge of the bonnet.
