What a wonderful walk! We were lucky with the weather: crystal blue sky and clear sunshine .. perfect. The directions are clear and we reached the end of the walk in 2hrs 10, having walked fairly briskly the whole way. The Royal Oak makes a friendly and very welcome end to the trip!

A fantastic walk, the autumn colours through the forest were fantastic. The path is not clear when you get to the Column...You actually have to walk through the column enclosure.. The canal path is easy going, the final climb back to the car is surprisingly hard going - but the Royal Oak is a friendly pub and are dog friendly.

I would have to agree with the first person's comments with regards to finding the carpark, it's more like a layby. A very enjoyable walk tho but be prepared to climb over a fence or two. From the Column towards the house watch out for the bushes!

Completed today. Very gentle walk. Gave my Mio Walker with Memory map its maiden voyage today and it worked great. the column at point 3 was a welcome spot for a rest and snack. I took my 3,6 and 8 year old and although they where tired at the end they completed the walk. Car park was not obvious and I was not sure if it was the place to park. I would perhaps recomend parking at point 2 and starting and ending the walk here.

We've just got back from completing this walk, and found it to be thoroughly enjoyable. It took us a little longer than the suggested time as we took it slowly to take in all the views. The scenery was very pretty and we saw lots of wildlife. Well worth doing. We actually went in 2010 but date not yet available on AA website.
