Description
Tucked away just off Mayfair's Berkeley Square is London's first Kyoto restaurant - a classy affair, created from award-winning designer Tony Chi's vision of opulent Kyoto styling. An unobtrusive touch button slides open the wooden front door on to a sophisticated modern interior, with high-quality wood and mirrors, banquette seating and a chef's central sushi table. The staff are welcoming and attentive, necessarily knowledgeable and helpful in guiding diners through the intricacies of the menu. The cooking - from chef Ichiro Kubota - offers innovative classic and contemporary interpretations of Kyoto cuisine, delivered via a fixed-price lunch option, extensive carte, a separate sushi menu and six tasting options. The sheer quality of ingredients and the freshness, clarity, vibrancy and combinations of flavours strike through in every dish and combine with great attention to detail in superb presentation. So dig deep into your pockets and prepare to be wowed by sweet shrimp with sake jelly and caviar, or miso gratin with scallops, maitake and king oyster mushrooms. Main courses include delicious Wagyu beef in hoba leaf with seasonal vegetables, or grilled lobster with soy sauce velouté, with home-made white miso ice cream to close.
