Description
Once an open-air theatre, this restaurant is a stunning modern, glass-walled building, virtually suspended over the bay to give uninterrupted views of the sea and coastline. Uncompromisingly contemporary and upmarket in style, the bright, clean-lined interior combines traditional high-quality table settings with a funky style of seating and napery. The open-plan kitchen not only provides a striking feature but also allows tantalising aromas to drift into the restaurant and heighten expectancy. As the names suggests, seafood dominates the menu, a fixed-price affair with a good-value alternative set meal in winter. The clean, crisp cooking style is flavour-driven, allowing the wonderfully fresh produce to shine. Think smoked haddock rarebit with creamed leeks and pancetta, or grilled fillet of John Dory served with braised oxtail, wilted green vegetables, truffle and pea foam. This is sister to The Seafood Restaurant at St Monans, down the coast, where Tim Butler and Craig Millar first joined forces (see entry) and is a recent AA Wine Award winner for Scotland.

Took my wife there on our wedding anniversary as she loves seafood, especially shellfish. Unfortunately no shellfish on menu except scallops. Service was deplorable. Ordered wine which still hadn't arrived during starter. When it arrived, no apology. The staff, especially maitre d', were more interested in people on another table. We were made to feel like 2nd-class citizens. Food nothing exceptional. Overpriced, £110 for two! Without doubt our worst anniversary meal ever.

Such a busy restaurant, but still we were looked after very well by a well-drilled team of staff. Great views, exciting food, relaxed and unfussy service creates an exhilarating atmosphere. We had a lot of fun, being a table of 4, and didn't feel as if we were being too loud. A great night.

I was very impressed, I love seafood. My daughters treated me to a birthday meal, the table was originally booked for 4. The three of us were totally delighted but my eldest daughter remarked it was fortunate her partner was called away on business as the menu had nothing on it for him - he would have struggled. Apart from the halibit being a little dry, an excellent evening all round.
