Description
The restaurant occupies an old fisherman's cottage and features an 800-year-old freshwater well with mythical healing powers. There's an open fire in the Victorian bar, a terrace for sitting outside, and picture windows in the modern restaurant extension overlooking the harbour and the Firth of Forth across the Isle of May. The cooking deals in the freshest fish simply cooked, a light touch allowing the main ingredient to dominate on the plate. Think pan-seared scallops served with a pancetta and herb risotto, or grilled fillet of halibut with anchovy-crushed potatoes, spinach and a grain-mustard sauce, and to finish, perhaps a baked lime cheesecake with blueberries and flaked almonds. There's usually one dish on the fixed-price repertoire for meat-eaters too.
