Bhatia's modern, progressive attitude to Indian cuisine is echoed in the restrained décor, though it is rich in vibrant Eastern styling to set the scene for a truly intimate, but relaxed and sophisticated experience. Sandy beige and chocolate brown tones, silk cushions, woodcarvings and a bewitching array of tribal masks create an exotic atmosphere, alongside specially sourced contemporary cutlery and crockery, crisp white linen and highly knowledgeable front-of-house service. There's a snug front room overlooking the street, while the back room comes bathed in daylight from a conservatory-style skylight. Vineet Bhatia's contemporary, thoroughly evolved cuisine redefines the concept of Indian food and dining, and makes a visit here a real experience. There's an elegance to the kitchen's technical skill, with fine clarity and balance to vibrant flavours and textures, while presentation is refined, cultured and eye-catching. Luxury ingredients parade on an enticing range of menu options that include stunning gourmand tasting offerings. The carte is equally tantalising, perhaps delivering tandoori black-spice chicken breast served with tomato and cashew nut chutney, chilli khichdi, creamy yellow lentils, mooli and carrot relish and pure gold leaves, while desserts are anything but ordinary, take crispy marble chocolate-almond samosa with Madras coffee-walnut mousse and Baileys ice cream. Ancillaries and an upmarket wine list are impressive too. This is a 'must visit' for lovers of modern Indian cuisine!
