Description
Housed within the stone walls of an original crofter's cottage, close to the shores of Loch Dunvegan, The Three Chimneys is worth the long journey. This magical little restaurant is set in glorious wilderness, nestled between the hills and the sea. The whitewashed building's interconnecting rooms pick up on the natural theme to create a feeling of chic simplicity. Take the candlelit restaurant's bare stone walls, low ceilings and polished-wood tables, with their slate tablemats and high-backed chairs. It's intimate and cosy, while service is suitably relaxed and friendly, but professional and well informed. As you'd expect, the menus change daily to make the best of the abundant local larder, with seafood a highlight. Superb quality produce is simply cooked to let the freshness and quality shine through. The finely-tuned style marries traditional Scottish ideas with a more modern approach, delivering skilful combinations and clean, crisp flavours - as in a Broadford smoked haddock and Borreraig Farm duck egg omelette with radish leaves and smoked herring roe or grilled loin of Glen Hinnisdal lamb with kidneys and slow-roast shoulder, rosemary polenta, neeps and lamb gravy. For dessert, expect the likes of warm rhubarb and almond tart with rhubarb and blood orange sorbet. Add an impressive wine list and fantastic views that money can't buy, and a walk along the loch to see the seals is a must.
