Description

Located in beautiful rolling Monaghan countryside overlooking parkland and the championship golf course, Nuremore is an oasis of country-house calm and tranquillity. The split-level dining room has recently been refurbished with an extension to the conservatory, and has a comfortable, modern feel with pleasant views over gardens and the lake. The imaginative menu more than befits the setting, aptly demonstrating the flair and accomplished technical skill of chef Raymond McArdle's well-motivated brigade and pleasant, attentive front-of-house service. His modern approach, underpinned by a classical French theme, utilises tip-top produce, enhanced by contemporary styling of presentation and ingredient combination. Menu descriptions don't really do justice to the intricate work that graces dishes. Nonetheless, to show the style, take an accomplished starter of Annagassan white crab and lobster cocktail, mango relish and parmesan crisp, or hand-dived Wexford sea scallops, with confit of chicken, cauliflower purée and Madeira jus. Follow with line-caught wild halibut baked with lemon confit, warm tomato fondue, white beans and black truffle, and to finish, fennel and vanilla parfait with chocolate velouté. Peripherals like breads, amuse-bouche, pre-desserts and petits fours also hold top form through to the end. Lunch offers exceptionally good value.
