Roman Camp Country House Hotel

Built as a hunting lodge for the Dukes of Perth in 1625, this charming country-house hotel is set in 20 acres of tranquil woodland gardens and grounds leading down to the River Teith in the heart of the Trossachs National Park. It became the Roman Camp Country House Hotel in 1939, taking its name from the nearby earthworks - believed to be Roman. In keeping with its historic past, decorative tapestries grace the walls of the oval dining room and real fires warm the atmospheric public rooms in true country-house fashion. Softly decorated in a modern, classical style and overlooking the garden, the restaurant's well-spaced tables are lit by tall candles and decorated with fresh flowers. The service is suitably professional yet friendly. The talented kitchen's modern approach is underpinned by a classical theme, the repertoire dominated by high quality Scottish produce from the abundant local larder. Expect creative, exciting and innovative dishes with clear flavours, such as smoked eel lasagne with sauté langoustines and carrot escabèche to start, and to follow perhaps loin of hare, date purée and dark chocolate sauce. Finish with Turkish delight, poached rhubarb and rosewater foam. There's an extensive wine list and pre-dinner canapés, pre-desserts and petits fours to enjoy.
