The Star Inn Tytherley
Description
Set in the smallest village in the Test Valley, the 16th-century Star Inn stands overlooking the village cricket green. You'll find seasonal Ringwood beers and other guest ales behind the bar, plus an extensive international wine list, carefully compiled to offer a selection of good 'quaffing' wines as well as fine bottles for a special occasion. Dine where you like, in the bar, at dark-wood tables in the main dining room, or outside on the patio in summer, where you can also play chess on a king-sized board. Lunchtime brings a variety of platters (cheese, fish or pork pie), sandwiches (perhaps crayfish and chorizo, or brie, parma ham and tomato), and a good value two course choice (Winchester cheese soufflé, and pheasant roly poly), plus a carte. Choose from the evening supper menu (parsnip and cheddar bread and butter pudding, or venison casserole), while the dinner carte serves up pork tenderloin, or grilled gilthead bream fillets.

We arrived by chance but enjoyed a wonderful evening with good company, excellent food and some very good local ales. We will return.
