Pen-y-Bryn
Description
From the front, this 1970s building looks rather more like a medical centre than a pub. The interior, though, is very attractive with oak floors, open fires, bookcases, rugs and old furniture. To the rear there is a stunning garden and terrace with panoramic views over the sea and looming headland known as the Great Orme. The modern British menu opens with a good selection of starters, including sticky chilli chicken with Thai salad; mushroom tart with tarragon crust; and light dishes like Welsh rarebit, or Menai mussels in a wine and cream sauce. Among the main courses are Guinness braised blade of beef; crispy lamb and feta salad; and grilled herring fillet in oatmeal crust with crab and lemon butter. To finish try warm treacle tart with custard; or cinnamon choux pastry fritters with apricot sauce and ice cream.
