Description
The old Nat West building may not be the hottest tower in town anymore, but as a location for a restaurant the 24th floor takes some beating. And it has views right across to the 'Gherkin', so you can enjoy gazing at cutting-edge architecture while you eat. The sophisticated operation has its own bar (with seats naturally facing away from it to take in those views), while the dining room comes dressed in its best white linen with stylish appointments and all tables benefiting from the spectacular panoramas. Service is slick and friendly, with good attention paid to wine, while the cuisine is Gary's hallmark modern British with a twist. Impeccable ingredients, crystal-clear flavours, perfect balance and sharp presentation parade on exciting dishes. Clearly defined menus might feature seared scallops with shallot mustard sauce and mashed potato followed by pan-fried sea bream with globe artichoke and tomato casserole. Finish with baked egg custard tart with rhubarb sorbet. Leave time for security check-in at this landmark tower block. (Rhodes W1 Restaurant - and sister Rhodes Brasserie (see entries) - are Gary Rhodes-run ventures at the Cumberland Hotel, Marble Arch.)
