On the stunning road which meanders from St Ives to St Just along the majestic North coast, lies this wonderful old Cornish inn. It's a substantial place with a rustic bar - flagged floor, pastel tones on the walls and beams, bookcases, and three or so beers on tap - and a meandering dining room with chunky wooden tables and local art on the walls. You can eat where you like. Plenty of local produce appears on the menu, served up with a bit of contemporary flair. Start perhaps with spider crab ravioli with orange-braised chicory and crab sauce, or red mullet escabèche, before a main-course rump of lamb with broad beans, braised little gem and cocotte potatoes, or the eponymous gurnard with a crab risotto.
