Situated in a quiet hamlet in just over 3 acres of grounds, this listed Georgian dower house is an ideal retreat for those in search of good food in restful surroundings. The small country-house style restaurant with rooms receives much hands-on tender love and care from chef-proprietor Tim Ford and his wife Emma, who leads an attentive front-of-house team. The table settings are formal and there is a choice of two small lounges for pre- and post-prandial drinks. Tim is responsible for preparing the lion's share of the food which is simple but well thought out and carefully executed. Dinner is a leisurely affair with good use made of local ingredients; start, perhaps, with an individual pie of quail breast, quail dumplings and baby vegetables in a rich red wine sauce topped with puff pastry, following on with pan-fried medallion of Cornish sea bass with a white wine and chive sauce. Finish with a tasty fig and pear crumble to ensure the sweetest of dreams.
