Built by a Victorian shipping magnate in a hamlet with coastal views, Dunsley Hall is a dramatic-looking mansion with hints of the Gothic. The interior is all panelling, mullioned and stained-glass windows and fine plasterwork. An amuse-bouche - perhaps pea and ham soup - augurs well for what follows: say, a well-presented starter of local ham hock terrine in a truffled dressing with red onion chutney and toasted brioche. Given the proximity of Whitby, it comes as no surprise that fish crops up frequently, maybe in a main course of lemon sole and scallops in a shallot and caper dressing with buttered greens and lemony mash. Chocoholics can feast on dark chocolate tart with pistachio ice cream and raspberry sauce.
