The Fat Fox Inn

13 Shirburn Street, WATLINGTON, OX49 5BU

1 rosettes

The Fat Fox lurks in a small market town on the edge of the Chilterns, and is a proper old country inn with an inglenook fireplace and wood-burning stove. The menu offers hearty portions of rustic, unfussy food with just the right amount of modern tweaking - so expect venison in the Scotch egg. Pub favourites such as mussels in Thai green curry, or chicken liver parfait with sharp chutney, pique the appetite for robust main dishes like a mash-topped trad fish pie made with haddock, salmon and king prawns, served with seasonal greens, venison stew with mashed swede, or a real steak-and-kidney suet pudding, with fig frangipane to finish.
