Golf fans will find plenty to excite at the world-famous Turnberry Resort, and not only when it comes to playing their favourite game. This luxurious hotel on the stunning Ayrshire coast offers its guests a choice of high quality dining experiences, and one of them is the chic and stylish James Miller Room. Sitting adjacent to the 1906 Restaurant (see entry), the James Miller Room provides an intimate and elegant setting for some serious fine dining. The space is a successful blend of period features (high ceilings, cornicing and grand fireplace) and contemporary furnishings (deep red chairs and darkwood), while the cooking is broadly modern European and centred around superb, locally-sourced ingredients, prepared with flair and a good deal of skill. Torchon of foie gras with candied apple, gingerbread and cider bubbles is an inventive first course, while Clash Farm pork is superbly cooked and comes with dived scallops and noodles. Chocolate cremosa with frangelico jelly, candied hazelnuts and blood orange sorbet ends things on a high.
