In a row of part-boarded cottages in the town centre, this is a smart, contemporary dining space. Previously at the nearby Auberge du Lac, Phil Thompson's menus show classical leanings and plenty of interesting combinations. There are set menus alongside the carte, as well as a six-course tasting menu. A starter of crisp pulled pork with beetroot, poached quince and cured pork neck is a confident starter, followed by roast saddle of Little Braxted lamb, with baked squash, mini jackets, anchovy butter and roast garlic. Finish with peanut butter custard, caramelised banana, sticky toffee pudding ice cream and salt caramel.
