Kendals Brasserie

Mount Juliet Hotel, THOMASTOWN, Co Kilkenny, ROI,

1 rosettes

Kendals is housed in a converted stable block of Mount Juliet Hotel, a light-filled, airy space under a pitched wooden ceiling. The kitchen concentrates on French brasserie classics with some input from other cuisines, so goats' cheese mousse appears with pistachios, black grapes, beetroot and raisins, while chicken parfait is partnered by duck rillettes and accompanied by salted grapes and watercress. Main courses follow in similar mould: fillet of hake with bean cassoulet, a chorizo and leek sausage and mussels, and pan-fried pork cutlet with apple jus, black pudding, kale and pommes purée. Menus are bilingual, so among puddings expect cheesecake à la vanille with blood orange jelly and sorbet.
