The Elveden Estate is a hive of activity - they grow a lot of veg on the 10,000 acre farm, butcher meat in-house, grow Christmas trees, there's a shop selling their own produce (jams, chutneys, that sort of thing) and they're a 'local food hub' for lots of local suppliers and producers. The smart cafe, centred around a large courtyard of red-brick outbuildings, is all very relaxed and family-friendly, and serves up everything from sandwiches to full-on stuff like rabbit and venison hotpot with braised greens and honey-roasted parsnips. There are plenty of outdoor tables in the courtyard, although it's charming inside too (vaulted ceiling and beams, natural-wood floors, cream walls and black marble-topped tables). You might start with Elveden wild pigeon terrine and finish with a chocolate and orange bread-and-butter pudding.
