Pomme d'Or Hotel,
Liberation Square,
ST HELIER,
Jersey,
JE1 3UF
One of Jersey's most famous hotels, the historic Pomme d'Or has been rooted into St Helier life for the best part of two centuries. From its position on Liberation Square, it has lovely views to the yacht marina and is the focal point of the annual liberation bash on May 9th; the occupying German navy, by the way, availed itself of the Pomme's celebrated hospitality by commandeering it as their HQ during World War II. The hotel's top-end dining option La Petite Pomme, is a classically elegant place to take it all in, along with an inventive menu of contemporary ideas in which top-class local produce looms large - particularly on Friday evening, when the renowned seafood buffet showcases the local catch. Pan-fried Jersey scallops with tomato confit, pancetta dust and herb oil could be one way to start, while mains serve up steaks from the grill, or perhaps roasted duck breast with fondant potato, creamed cabbage, pear purée and a redcurrant reduction.
